Who installs the dumbwaiter?

The contractor you hire to build the shaft can easily install the dumbwaiter.  Our dumbwaiters are designed to make installation relatively easy using basic hand tools.  Some counties require a licensed elevator technician to do the installation.  You need to check with your local code enforcement office or inspector to determine whether a special license is required in your area.

What is the weight capacity of a Powerlift dumbwaiter?

Powerlift dumbwaiters are available in weight capacities from 100 to 500 pounds. See our products page to see which model fits your needs.

Is dumbwaiter installation difficult?

Our dumbwaiters are designed to make installation relatively easy using basic hand tools.

Is wiring required to install a dumbwaiter?

Our dumbwaiters are pre-wired; however, there are a few plug-in connectors and some wire nuts that need to be connected by the installer.  An electrician will need to run power to the dumbwaiter from your power source.

Where is the motor on a Powerlift dumbwaiter located?

The motor can be located at the top or the bottom of the dumbwaiter. You specify the motor location when you place your order.

How is the lift supported?

Mezzanine lifts (vertical reciprocating conveyors, or VRCs) are self-supported and free standing. Anchors and brackets secure the frame to the ground. Dumbwaiters are supported by the walls of the structure using bolts.

Powerlift dumbwaiters are UL Listed and fully comply with applicable safety codes. We continuously update our products to keep up with code, and safety is a priority on every order.

Will the dumbwaiter meet my local codes?

Our standard dumbwaiters include most code-required safety features; however, codes vary by country, state, and county, so you or your contractor should contact your local code enforcement office to confirm requirements. When ordering, let us know what your local code office requires so any necessary accessories can be added (at an additional cost).

What safety features do Powerlift dumbwaiters include?

All units include standard safety features such as door interlocks and safety switches that sense whether the door is open or closed and determine when the lift is allowed to be in motion. Additional safety features are available. Contact us to discuss what fits your application.

How much maintenance does a dumbwaiter need?

Powerlift dumbwaiters are very low maintenance. We recommend lubricating and cleaning the brakes and checking and adjusting chain tension once a year for residential units, and every six months for commercial units.

Can the dumbwaiter car be customized in size?

Yes, every Powerlift dumbwaiter is built to your specific design requirements. Some custom sizes are available at an additional cost.

Are Powerlift dumbwaiters in stock and ready to ship?

No, every Powerlift dumbwaiter is built to your specific design requirements.

Does the dumbwaiter come with a warranty?

Residential Powerlift dumbwaiters come with a 5-year limited warranty (parts only). Commercial dumbwaiters come with a 2-year limited warranty (parts only).

How fast does a Powerlift dumbwaiter travel?

Most Powerlift dumbwaiters travel at 36 or 45 feet per minute. Faster speeds can be achieved on some models by reducing the weight capacity. Contact us for additional travel-speed information.

How many stops can a Powerlift dumbwaiter have?

Powerlift dumbwaiters are built to your specifications, so the number of stops is determined by your application.

What is the maximum travel distance of a Powerlift dumbwaiter?

Powerlift dumbwaiters are built to your specifications, so the maximum travel distance is determined by your application.  We build every dumbwaiter to suit your specific design requirements.

Can a dumbwaiter have two doors at one stop?

Yes, multiple openings are available at each stop, and you can also have a double door on one opening at an additional cost.

Can the dumbwaiter car open on three sides?

Yes, the dumbwaiter car can have openings on three sides. The fourth side is reserved for the track system.

Does a Powerlift dumbwaiter come with hoist-way doors?

Hoist-way doors are not included in the base price. Contact us for door options and pricing.
